Are you looking for practical experience in the field of human rights? Stichting URGENT / the URGENT Foundation is looking for a spring intern to work on projects combining human rights, journalism, and project management from March to June 2023

The intern position is mainly related the Shelter City Amsterdam programme, a temporary relocation program for human rights defenders to allow them to rest and recover from work, focus on their health and personal development, and expand their network and advocacy with Dutch NGO’s and funds.

Our foundation also organizes different activities which relate to human rights and that the intern will participate in:

  • WorldTalks: An online collection of interviews with human rights defenders about their struggle, their motivation, and their ambitions. As an intern you are expected to record interviews that relate to the work of a ShelterCity guest but you can also create your own dossier around a human rights theme or country that particularly interests you, create a social media campaign or organize an event.

  • The Activist Bar: Throughout the year we organize different live events in and around Amsterdam in the field of human rights. One of these events is the Activist Bar where people can have short one-on-one meetings with different human rights defenders. We have now continued this activity online and the intern will be helping with the creation and organization.

Who are you?

  • Motivated to work in the field of human rights and support an activist during their stay in Amsterdam,

  • Flexible and able to work independently,

  • A positive and problem-solving attitude, as well as good communication and organization skills.
